Q: Does the below Hadith imply that our Sehri can go up until Fajr Azaan? Then why do our timings usually display the Sehri to finish about 30 minutes before the Azaan? Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “When one of you hears the call to prayer while eating the pre-fasting meal and his vessel is in his hand, let him not put it down until he fulfills his needs from it.” From Sunan Abī Dāwūd 2350
Answer: In the Hadith that you posted (Sunan Abī Dāwūd 2350), almost all Islamic scholars consider this as Maghrib azaan & not Fajr.
Prophet Mohammed صلی الله علیہ وسلم fixed the time for Sehri:
Zayd ibn Thaabit (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “We ate suhoor with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) then he went to pray.” I [the narrator] asked, “How long was there between the azaan and suhoor?” He said, “As long as it takes to recite fifty verses.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1921; Muslim, 1097)
According to the above, Sehri time ends 20 minutes before Fajr time starts.
Allah (SWT) knows best.
