Q: Does the below Hadith imply that our Sehri can go up until Fajr Azaan? Then why do our timings usually display the Sehri to finish about 30 minutes before the Azaan? Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “When one of you hears the call to prayer while eating the pre-fasting meal and his vessel is in his hand, let him not put it down until he fulfills his needs from it.” From Sunan Abī Dāwūd 2350


Answer: In the Hadith that you posted (Sunan Abī Dāwūd 2350), almost all Islamic scholars consider this as Maghrib azaan & not Fajr.

Fasting in Shawwal

Q: Is it necessary to start Shawwal fasting the next day after Eid ul Fitr? Or Can we fast on any day in the month of Shawwal? If we want to fast every Monday and Thursday in the month of Shawwal, will it be considered Sittah Shawwal fasting?


Answer: No, it is not necessary to start fasting the very next day of Eid-ul-Fitr, nor is it necessary to fast continuously for six days to be considered a sittah shawl fast (Sittah in Arabic means six). You can fast on any six days in the month of Shawwal, but make sure that you do not fast on a Friday in seclusion. Example: You decide to fast on Monday and want to fast continuously for six days up to Saturday - this is OK. But, let's say you fast on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday - this is incorrect. To…

What are the days during which fasting is Prohibited?

Observing fast on Eid-ul-Fitr and Ayyam-e-Tashreeq i.e. 10th to 13th of month of Zilhajja is prohibited (Haram). If any body started observing fast during these days it is not necessary to complete it.
